Yes, but not enough to offset the huge premium that you will pay to purchase a tankless water heater and the huge premium that you will pay to have it installed. You’ll never break even. It is a big marketing gimmick. They are not ready for prime time yet. See the attached article for more information about how to make a decision between a tankless and a standard water heater.

If you read the literature on tankless water heaters, they claim to save money because you only heat the water you are using. However, they are expensive and haven’t been around long enough to have a track record.
If you read the electric companies literature, a hot water heater that is a new one, will save you money because they are insulated better and more energy efficient. Put a timer on the hot water heater ($50) and have it come on one hour before you shower or need hot water.
Cost of tankless is at least 3 times higher than a new hot water heater.

I haven’t purchased a tankless water heater but I have taken classes in sustainable design. Tankless water heaters can save you money over time on your electric bill because instead of keeping water hot (which may not be used) it only heats the water that you need. Kind of like hot water on demand. Because it doesn’t heat the water that you don’t use right away, this saves energy costs. A tankless water heater can be expensive though, so it is an investment-which is why it might pay for itself over 2-5 years.
