Do these heaters have any problems with leaking water or as I mentioned above any hint of gas odor when installed inside the house? Thank you.

If installed correctly there is no smell or odor. as far as water leaking there are the same concerns as a regular tank heater. however the tankless are much less likely to leak since there is no tank to rust out. i have never seen one leak but it is possible. you can have safety devices installed with the tankless to shut the water off if there is a leak, so there would only be a very small amount of water leaking before it automaticly shuts off.

The venting of the gas fuel tankless hot water heater is very important. if your construction is new project, the building inspector will ck to be sure it is right.
I am giving you a link below to many brands of on-demand tankless water heaters.

If the system is installed properly, you won’t even know it is there.
Ask around to find a reliable installer, and don’t be afraid to ask for references.

Once gas is ignited, you lose the smell. Look at a gas stove. The flame has no smell.

We too smell gas from our Bosch tankless – and outside where it is vented. Just had the gas company back today and they got a decent read of gas when I turned the hot water on, then told me “not to worry” that forcing gas out when the heater ignites is normal and that is the cause. I am not comfortable with this answer … it is strong enough that folks comment when sitting on our patio near the vent!
