We too smell gas from our Bosch tankless - and outside where it is vented. Just had the gas company back today and they got a decent read of gas when I turned the hot water on, then told me "not to worry" that forcing gas out when the heater ignites is normal and that is the cause. I am not comfortable with this answer ... it is strong enough that folks comment when sitting on our patio near the vent!
