Can an electric heat pump water heater be exposed to some sun in the basement?

I live in Wisconsin and the sunlight would originate from six-inch glass block. The top of the water heater may be in front of part of the window. The idea is that it would stay warmer, and therefore, help it to run more efficiently, but I want to make sure the sunlight exposure will not be detrimental to the fins at the top or the unit itself.
