Electric Tankless Waterheater?

Posted on | December 2, 2009 | 3 Comments

I’ve asked before but only got answers about gas tankless water heater. Gas is not an option for me. Has anyone recently switched from regular ELECTRIC water heater to ELECTRIC TANKLESS water heater?
If you have, how much difference did it make on your ELECTRIC BILL.
Are there any particular brands to avoid?
Thanks for any help you can give.

The good ones operate on 220V. Also, make sure you have soft water. Hard water plays havoc on these units. The main thing that matters is the incoming temperature of your water. If you live in a cold climate and the water is, let’s say 53F, it is hard to heat enough water for more than a shower with one of these units. You will probably get the best results by installing more than one unit. Like a unit at every water source.(i.e.-one for the bath, one for the kitchen, one for the wash machine). Hope this helps! Kind regards!………………L

I doubt you will save a lot on your electric bill. Certainly not enough to offset previous gas bills with a gas HWH.
The initial costs are high, due to their technology and the ongoing cost and energy demand are high to get that water hot enough on the spot.
Agree they are meant for specific sites, such as perhaps a bathroom with one sink and a shower.
Have never seen an article or proof that they are energy efficient and will save you money. What I have seen is the touting of “instant” hot water in larger places, so you don’t have to wait for the purge of lukewarm to cool water in your lines while the hot is getting there fromthe HWH. So, they would appear to be more a convenience than cost effective.
