How to make a solar water heater?
Posted on | December 10, 2011 | 2 Comments
Hello im in 6th grade and we are required to make a water solar heater. It cannot have any glass or store baought kits. We are going to test it with two ice cubes. One in our water heater and the other in a bag on the ground. We have 15 minutes and then we will measure how much water melted from each ice cube. The one in our solar heater has to melt more than the other one. HELP!

Find a cardboard shoe box.
Cut the sides and ends of the box down so the box is only about 2 inches high.
Line the inside of the box with plastic from a dark green garbage bag.
Cut a big hole in the lid of the box so there is just 1/2″ of cardboard left of the top part of the lid.
Use tape to fasten clear plastic Saran or Glad-wrap to the inside of the lid so it covers the big hole.
Put the lid on your box and there’s your basic solar heater.
Now make a prop out of heavy corrugated cardboard and duct tape so you can prop your solar heater up at an angle to face the sun as directly as possible.
Good luck. Have fun.

Just put a piece of glass over yours. The magnification from the glass will melt the ice much faster than it being in a bag by itself.
