Sould I Use Gas Or Propane For Heat And Appliances? Has Anyone Tried A New Saltless Water Softener?

Posted on | December 13, 2009 | 2 Comments

I have well water and would like to install my water softener in the basement. This being said a water softener that does not use salt would be perfect. I am also looking into a tankless water heater. Does anyone have any opinon on the matter? Should I use all propane in my new house or electric or a mixture?

If you have a high mineral content it can clog the pipes in the tankless heater, also google “”gas vs propane”

I know nothing about water softeners but I have installed and used on-demand “tankless” water heaters. If you don’t use a lot of hot water or you are away a good deal, an on-demand system is a good idea since you are not heating water that you don’t actually use. However, electric water heaters are very inefficient and costly to run although much easier to hook up. If you are a “normal” family with average hot water use, a regular tank type heater is probably a better choice and if you use a water heater insulation jacket, it will be even more economical to run. As far as fuel goes, I think gas is better but ultimately that is your choice.
