Are you tired of hearing about the catastrophic implications of global warming? Do you want to do your bit to help? If the answer to the previous question is yes then tankless hot water heater is the way to go. If saving the world is not incentive enough then may be $300 Federal Tax Credit would be an incentive enough for you. Yes it’s true, if you buy an appliance that is energy efficient you get the tax credit and in case of the tankless hot water heater the tax credit is $300. So what exactly is the tankless hot water heater?

As the name implies it is a water heater but without the storage facility. It has several advantages over the traditional water heater. First and foremost is the size. Its comparatively less bulky structure makes it possible to install it anywhere you like, and it can be installed very near to the point of use. Second is the energy efficiency. It will reduce your energy bill dramatically. Since it is shut down automatically when not in use it saves considerable units of energy. Third is the $300 Federal Tax Credit that you get at the end of the year.

It is of two types:

1. Point of Use.

2. Whole house.

Point of Use-This kind is generally used to provide hot water to only one sink or faucet. It is advantageous because it is very compact and can be installed near to the point of use.

Whole House-This kind supplies hot water to the entire apartment or house. It can be of different capacities. It can simultaneously supply water to two or more bathrooms or for pools of for spa, whatever is your requirement.

So how does a tankless hot water heater save energy and hence your bill. It does by eliminating the standby heat loss. In traditional storage water heaters, water was first heated and then stored in the water tanker. If there was no immediate use of the water it would keep losing heat and then finally would become useless for the intended purpose. In tankless hot water heater, water is not stored, but it is heated when there is a demand for it. Water will flow through the pipe and the heater will heat it before t becomes available to the user. This can be done in two ways. First is the use of electrical coils to heat the water. Second is the use of gas to heat water. But since water is not stored anywhere it does not have any standby heat loss and hence becomes more efficient. The heating process stops as soon as the flow of water is stopped. Though it is efficient but care must be taken that we choose the right type of heater. Using a point of the use heater for the whole house would lead to disappointment and dissatisfaction. So care must be taken while choosing the heater, and you would have a $300 Federal Tax Credit and substantially less bill payments to make at the end of a year.
