Which water heater should I buy (to save the most)?
Posted on | December 13, 2011 | 3 Comments
I have an oil burning furnace and oil fired water heater tankless coil inside it that supplies our hot water. I want to replace oil heating with pellet stove and then I heard the oil fired coil will not be economical because the house heat will not be in use. I would like to get some kind of tankless gas heater or electric or natural gas but don’t know which one is the best. Our family does not use much hot water (about 2 showers a day and 2 loads of loundry a week). Anyone knows what is the best in this case? We live in upstate NY.

I’ve heard the natural gas tankless heaters work quite well. Nat. gas is supposed to be in plentiful supply so the price should stay fairly constant. If you do go this way, be sure to have a qualified installer do the work and have it inspected when he’s done. They can be a very good unit if installed properly and a real nightmare if not.

A tank less on demand water Heater is a good alternative and you have the option of electric or natural gas. Since your family doesn’t require allot of domestic hot water you will save on smaller output tank less. Be certain that the contractor matches your family peak hot water needs to the flow rate of the heater. Link us @ Homelinepros.com.

Those tankless coils are horrible, and are supposed to be outlawed from new installations in 2012. You are right they are inefficient because the boiler always needs to maintain temperature to supply DHW. There are a number of tankless, wall hung boiler on the market. American Standard makes a good one. Look at the warranty, gallons per minute, and who the manufacturer is. You may want to consider staying away from the made in China water heaters.
